In honor of National Boy Scout Day, Turning Point Announces the 2022 Scout Surveying Merit Badge Challenge
MILWAUKEE, WI – Turning Point, a Milwaukee-based surveying supplier, has announced the 2022 Scout Merit Badge Challenge.
The Surveying Merit Badge is one of the best ways to introduce young people to the Surveying profession. The scouts are given experience with practical examples and simulations of real-world survey work. Each scout has an opportunity to work with expensive, state-of-the-art instruments that they wouldn’t normally have access to.
Unfortunately, only 603 Boy Scouts earned the Surveying Merit Badge nationwide in 2020. Earning the Surveying Merit badge is truly a team effort and requires licensed surveyors to be present.
Acknowledging the declining numbers, Cliff DeTemple, the owner of Turning Point and an Eagle Scout himself, wanted a way to generate more interest in surveying. He created the Turning Point 2022 Scout Surveying Merit Badge Challenge to double the number of merit badges earned.
The hope is that some of these young scouts will develop an interest in becoming surveyors themselves.
The Challenge is a friendly competition among state land surveying associations across the country. The prize is a Benelli Shotgun that will be given to the winning state association to be used as a raffle prize for scholarship funding.
Cliff has helped dozens of scouts earn the Surveying Merit Badge over the past few years. If you have any questions or you want to learn more about what is involved in coordinating with your local scouting chapters, please contact Cliff DeTemple at Turning Point at 414.353.8774 or write cdetemple@turningpointsystemsgroup.com
